2010 Charities

Life Education Programme

Educating children about the effects and risks associated with the use of drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. The health education programme is targeted at 4 – 11 year-olds and aims to help them make healthy lifestyle choices.

Active Hope

Warrington based charity which is committed to giving children and young people from all circumstances and backgrounds access to fantastic Outdoor and Adventurous Activities provided by a dedicated team of Christian instructors and volunteers. Many of those catered for are often those who have been excluded and are socially disadvantaged. Although they are Christian based the project is open to and caters for all backgrounds.

St Josephs Family Centre

Family support services including: Family Contact Facility, Counselling,
Marriage Care, Support Programme for Children, Support for Divorced / Separated Parties, Bereavement Care, Parenting Skills Courses, Anger Management Courses, Family Home Visits, Material Help (Emergency Only), Spiritual Help, Complementary Therapies.

Sarnelli House

Sarnelli House is an orphanage for abandoned children and children with HIV/AIDS in the Northern parts of Thailand. The orphanage has grown over 5 years to become home to over 150 children who are provided with medication to manage their HIV infection, food, shelter, protection and the means by which to attend a local school - enriching the lives of children for whom the alternative would be prostitution, street begging and a daily battle with their illness.

YMCA Furniture Project

The YMCA furniture project offers good quality, pre-loved furniture for young people. Contact the project on 01925 232725 (Monday to Thursday 9am - 1pm) for more information. Enquirers complete a form about what furniture is needed. Forms are available from: 3 Winmarleigh Street, Warrington, WA1 1NB or phone the number above. Next they will see what they have in stock and arrange a delivery date. Prices are low, for example £10 for a 3 piece suite!!

YMCA also offer support with a wide range of issues; housing; benefits; homelessness, social services, drugs and alcohol, health issues. Shower and washing facilities, signposting, student placements.

Brainwave North West

Brainwave, which provides home based therapy programmes for children with cerebral palsy and other conditions such as development delay, has opened a third Centre in Birchwood, Warrington to cope with the increasing demand for its services.
Brainwave works with families to deliver individual home based therapy and exercise programmes that help children with disabilities and developmental delay to achieve their potential.

Warrington Young Musician organised by WACIDOM

'The Warrington Competition for Young Musicians' has been held bi-annually since 1998. Prizes are awarded to the finalists of both the Lower Division (up to Grade 6) and the Upper Division (Grade 7 upwards). All entrants to the heats receive a short master-class from a professional adjudicator and a written appraisal.

The whole essence of WACIDOM is to promote the enjoyment and improvement of skills in music making.
