2007 Warrington Rotary Beer Festival

Cain’s rescue 11th Oktoberfest

The Rotary Club of Warrington’s popular Beer Festival nearly did not happen! At the beginning of September the previous main sponsor dropped out and they were in trouble. Then the Dusanj brothers from Cain’s brewery, galloped to the rescue and from there on everything went smoothly. This year’s Oktoberfest broke all previous records for attendance at each session. It is suspected that as much as £16,000 may have been raised for local and Rotary charities, but the final figure will not be known until all the bills have been paid. Around 60 local firms and individuals sponsored beers which just about held out until late Saturday night. Warm weather and record attendance made some of the beers warmer than ideal but most of the customers were too busy having a great time to complain. Live music at every session went down well and there was no trouble for the security men.

The national President of RIBI honoured the occasion on Thursday, together with a group of Rotarian Group Exchange Students from Brazil who had never seen anything like it.

The club gives a huge thank you to Cains, the sponsors, Parr Hall staff, their helpers who all work themselves to a standstill (including 89 year old Sam Cawdron!) and especially the customers who were 99% delightful and glad to help the very grateful charities. For more details and photos, see if you are in the Oktoberfest Gallery.
